Homecoming:
Celebrating the legacy of Duke Ellington
The Orchestra Without Borders joins frequent collaborators pianist Jonathan Fagan and poet Terry Carter in a program that bridges the boundaries between jazz and classical music.
Featuring for strings and jazz combo, including transcriptions of music by Duke Ellington by Jonathan Fagan, jazz pianist and founder of the Medford Jazz Festival, Homecoming explores the cross-pollination of jazz and classical music composed by Black American musicians during the 20th and 21st centuries.
The concert includes music by Duke Ellington and William Grant Still, composers whose output straddled the classical and jazz worlds, as well as poetry by Terry Carter, whose works explore the deep resonance of jazz and music in contemporary life.
This concert will take place in March in Medford. Stay tuned for more updates on this toe-tapping program!
