Variaciones: Music from Argentina and Brazil

May 20, 7:30pm at First Unitarian Society in Newton

Join us for a special benefit concert celebrating the vibrant musical traditions of Argentina and Brazil, performed by Orchestra Without Borders in collaboration with award-winning Grooversity Percussion.

The program explores the rich legacy of Chiquinha Gonzaga, alongside works by Alberto Williams, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Clarice Assad, highlighting the diverse rhythms and influences of Latin American classical music.

Soprano Hannah Shanefield returns as featured soloist, performing Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, one of Villa-Lobos’s most beloved works. Countertenor Lucas Ludwig Coura sings Lua Branca by Gonzaga.

The event will also feature a sale of artwork from Zambia collected by Communities Without Borders founder, Dick Bail.

All proceeds benefit Communities Without Borders, which supports education for at-risk children in Zambia.
